Horsham Art Is..Festival

The Art is… festival is a not for profit organisation that presents a community festival program based in the western Victorian regional centre of Horsham each year in June.

It also delivers quality arts outcomes to the wider western Victoria (Wimmera) region. The festival runs for ten days and is managed by a volunteer committee supported by a small paid staff, including a festival manager, production and marketing roles.

The festival prides itself in delivering high quality, contemporary performing and visual arts programs for our regional audience. Our programming aims to build partnerships between the community and local and visiting artists, with a focus on community participation, skill development and high quality art outcomes.

In 2016 the festival will celebrate its’ 21st year of continuous annual festival delivery.

This year we are working on a new performance created by; the Elders of the Wotjobaluk Peoples, our regions’ artists, Wimmera community and school students in partnership with theatre directors Ken Evans and Rebecca Russell will bring to life local Aboriginal dreaming stories. These stories will be told using large-scale puppets, interactive animations and the theatre stage being shared by the Elders, actors, students and Tchingal.

Tchingal: Stories of Wotjobaluk Country builds on the 2015 Culti-vat and 2014 Museum of Lands Past in the third and final year of a three year collaboration between invited artists from the Sydney based arts company Erth: Scott Wright, Aesha Henderson, and Andrew Blizzard, with local Wimmera artists Nichola Clarke and Claudia Haenel, animator Dave Jones and sound artist Robbie Millar. In collaboration with local artists, school students and community members.
