Damon Smith’s Piano-Palooza

A time-travelling piano extravaganza with songs that span centuries!

Touring as part of the 2024 Connecting Places Program

Pianos often lie dusty, unkempt, and full of untold stories. Damon Smith’s Piano-Palooza brings them to life in an extravaganza of rock and roll and old-time piano shenanigans with songs that span centuries. Enjoy an incredible evening of unforgettable performances, virtuosic musicianship and storytelling.

Step back in time as Damon delves into the rich history of the piano, from its inception to its prominent role in dances, community gatherings, celebrations, and concerts. This show isn’t just about music; it’s a tribute to the piano’s presence within the very communities where the performances take place.

With stories of your town’s unique piano history, as well as yarns about the pioneers of piano music, you’ll learn the history of the piano and its significance as a community centrepiece that existed for young and old, rich and poor. Hear Beethoven magically transform into a ragtime piano performance, then continue your journey into the 20th century with toe tapping hits from Fats Domino, Jerry Lee Lewis and Ray Charles. Add in some boisterous audience participation, and what you’ll get is an incredible evening of unforgettable performances, virtuosic musicianship and hilarious storytelling.

Piano-Palooza is a wonderfully entertaining show that educates, entertains, and informs audiences with its unique blend of music, comedy, and storytelling. And if you don’t have a piano, Damon can bring one along for you! Perfect for lovers of music history as well as those just keen to have a great night out, Piano Palooza is not to be missed.
