Casting Off
Acrobatic comedy that surprises and delights.
Touring as part of the 2024 Connecting Places Program
A refreshing and uplifting conversation between three generations. Funny and heartful, these powerhouse women who win you over within minutes of hitting the stage. Wearing multi coloured hand-knitted costumes they share their lives and ideas while holding each other up both literally and metaphorically. They challenge gender conventions with kindness and humour and entertain without arrogance. A combination of words spoken while upside down, standing on shoulders or midway through a backflip. The full range of emotions are explored where the audience can join in the laughing, crying and screaming. Sometimes at the same time.
Casting Off is important: it suggests that the voices and bodies of women of all ages are worthy interesting and even funny. That we should be seen and heart, that we are dynamic, courageous and hilarious.
This show concludes with an informal Q+A, and at no extra cost offers a “laugh and craft” session to connect with communities. Participants are invited to bring their current craft projects for an hour of talking textiles. A connection with community through a shared passion of yarn-based craft.
