Member Story: Q-Lit

In 2025, RAV proudly welcomed Q-Lit into our membership community. Since its founding just a few years ago, Q-Lit has quickly become a powerful force for connection, creativity, and community across Victoria. With a strong focus on nurturing LGBTQIA+ writers and storytellers, their work now reaches thousands of people each year.

From monthly writing groups to their annual festival, Q-Lit creates inclusive, affirming spaces where queer voices are celebrated, supported, and amplified.

Who Are Q-Lit?

Q-Lit champions queer literature, storytelling, and community throughout Victoria. Through accessible programs and vibrant events, they foster connection, empower emerging writers, and help shape the next generation of storytellers.

Founded in 2022 by Kate Hall and Timothy Ryan, Q-Lit continues to grow as a vital hub for LGBTQIA+ creative expression.

Q-lit’s Action Plan

In line with Q-Lit’s mission to connect and empower LGBTQIA+ storytellers, their annual program is intentionally designed to bridge the gap between regional, suburban, and metropolitan creatives. From monthly writers’ groups that nurture localised communities to regional mini-festivals that foster cross-regional ties, the year culminates in a flagship metropolitan festival – a vibrant celebration inviting voices from far and wide to converge and connect.

Funding Success

Brionadh Hassett from Q-Lit recently shared how RAV Membership has supported their work—from access to funding opportunities and affordable insurance to ongoing professional backing and advocacy.

Through strategic networking and dedicated effort, Q-Lit secured tens of thousands of dollars in funding to support queer communities in Gippsland to engage with arts and culture, expanding their reach well beyond metropolitan Melbourne.

Supporting Creative Communities

Everything we do at RAV is for the talented creatives who bring art, culture, and connection to communities across Victoria. Hearing directly from Members like Q-Lit about the impact of our work is always a joy—and a powerful reminder of why this work matters. 💛
