Music | First Nations | Community
Regional Arts Victoria and Songlines Aboriginal Music are partnering up to deliver Songlines Live & Local, a workshop and live performance event combo which supports regional community presenters to host and showcase First Nations artists, music and culture.
This event is designed to build connections between creative organisations and Indigenous creatives in the local community; develop the confidence and capacity of community presenters to program Indigenous artists by delivering cultural awareness training; create professional performance opportunities for regional Indigenous artists, and for everyone to come together to celebrate with a great night of deadly live music performance.
Other details
Songlines artistic aim is to promote, support and present contemporary Indigenous music, arts and culture and to stimulate dialogue around the role of Indigenous arts in Australian culture. This provides a platform for artists to be a voice of the Indigenous community, which in turn will contribute to the overall voice of Australia Songlines holds some of Victoria’s largest Indigenous music events, providing a valuable contribution to Indigenous social and economic development through the arts by promoting ownership, cultural pride and unity. Our dedicated youth program is a seeding ground for tomorrow’s Indigenous art and artists.
Songlines will work with you to put together a line up of performers perfectly designed for your community.
For the performance event, Songlines has a wide roster of artists who styles – electro pop, country, gentle contemporary folk, boot scootin DJs, even some opera if that’s your fancy! You can see a sample of artists they work with on their website. Songlines will curate a line up in collaboration with you that your community will love. A mix of new voices, established artists, and performers from your local area will be included on the bill.
Final tech requirements for the performance will be determined when the event line up is confirmed. Songlines will work with the presenter to establish what technical equipment is available at your venue and can provide any items necessary to deliver the show with the purchase of the Technical Package.

The Gathering workshop is for community arts organisations or leaders who have wanted to connect with Indigenous artists, but don’t quite know how to get started. Maybe you want to engage an Indigenous artist to create a mural, be an artist in residence at your local school, perform in your festival or music venue, or commission from them a work of public art. The Gathering is an opportunity to gain cultural awareness, to meet some of your local Traditional Owners, and to ask all the questions in a safe, respectful and collaborative environment.
Songlines will connect with your local Registered Aboriginal Party to co-host this event.
