Mark Makers

Squish. Stamp. Reveal. Make Your Mark, Mindfully!

By Picture Thinking, Jacinta Weyers

Creative experience available on demand as part of the 2027 Creative Learning Program

The Arts – Visual Art | Critical and Creative Thinking | Personal & Social Capabilities

A sensory printmaking workshop where students Squish, Stamp and Reveal their way through the creative process. They discover how pattern, repetition, shape, positive and negative space come together to create wonderfully unique prints.

It’s creative play with wellbeing built in. Squeezing and squishing Blu-Tack, the unexpected star of our printmaking process, provides deep-pressure sensory input to help students feel calm, grounded and focused. From there, they explore the creative themes, abstract play, nature and music, experimenting with a collection of found objects, pressing them into the Blu-Tack to create their own unique designs.

Printmaking meets mindfulness in a fun, hands-on experience that engages the senses, sparks imagination and encourages creative expression.

Each Mark Maker takes home an A6 keepsake booklet of their unique marks and prints. In the 90-minute workshop, the class also creates a collaborative artwork to frame and display at school. In the 120-minute workshop (designed for Year 7-9), the class will learn additional mark-making techniques (using ink and brushwork) and also create a collaborative artwork to frame and display at school.

“As a parent it was so lovely for the kids to be creating with art processes they would not normally use. Jacinta is calm and supportive and the kids relaxed into the process and had fun. They were so proud of the end product which was entirely theirs but the step-by-step, considered process gave them a real sense of achievement. With limited arts funding available in our public schools, activities like this are vital for kids’ mental health and wellbeing, with creation and mindfulness at the core.”  – Parent and Occupational Therapist
