Create Record Produce
A hands-on music production experience where students create, record and produce music using professional recording equipment and music technology.
By Derek Bailey
Creative experience available on demand as part of the 2027 Creative Learning Program
Arts – Music | Digital Technologies | Digital Literacy | Critical & Creative Thinking | Personal & Social Capacity
In this workshop students step into the role of performers, recording artists and music producers as they explore how music is created, recorded and produced. Working collaboratively, they record singing, percussion, synths, beats and sound effects, then listen critically and make creative decisions to develop their performance. Students actively contribute by recording singing, clapping, rhythm and/or percussion, then listen critically to what they have created and make creative decisions about how their performance can be developed.
Through practical, hands-on activities, students discover how recording technology influences the way music sounds and how producers and recording engineers work with musicians to transform musical ideas and performances into recordings. The experience develops creativity, collaboration, critical listening, confidence and an understanding of contemporary music-making.
Two distinct workshop formats are available:
1. Create & Produce: Students develop musical ideas from scratch and collaboratively create a recorded piece.
2. Record: Students record existing, rehearsed school ensemble pieces. (Vocal, string, woodwind, brass, percussion etc)
“I believe this program would be of significant value to other schools, particularly those seeking contemporary, curriculum-linked arts experiences that combine creativity, technology and authentic industry engagement.” – Phillip R, Director of Music
