AusArt Day 2026: Make Regional Art Happen

Fund the artist. Fund the work. Fund the community.

Make Regional Art Happen is raising $20,000 to help fund a Small Halls Commission, creating an opportunity for a regional Victorian community and a local artist or creative organisation to come together to develop and present a brand-new work, made in and for their community.

Earlier this year, RAV awarded a Small Halls Commission to South Gippsland’s Fish Creek Memorial Hall and (it’s no) drama to develop Soundwaves. Your support will help make another opportunity like this possible — bringing new, locally made art to a small regional hall while providing meaningful paid work to regional artists.

Regional halls and small community venues are the heartbeat of towns across Victoria. They are places where people come together, share stories and celebrate their communities. Yet opportunities to develop and experience original, locally made performance work can be limited in regional areas.

The Small Halls Commission helps change that by supporting artists and Community Presenters to create new work at home, with local audiences at the heart of the process. It provides fair, sustainable artist fees, supports creative practice in regional locations, and strengthens the relationships between artists, presenters and their communities.

Your donation can help the next regional artist and community bring their idea to life!

What does a Small Halls Commission actually look like? Hear from Samara Cunningham, Artistic Director of (it’s no) drama, about their experience creating Soundwaves with Fish Creek Memorial Hall.

Their story shows what’s possible when regional artists and communities come together to make new work in their own local hall.
