Renee Stamatova

I am a Melbourne based artist working in both digital and analogue photographic techniques.

My work addresses identity, memory and time, often employing practices of camouflage, masquerade and documentation as a connection between artist and audience. Though I have many, my first love is Portraiture, and the hint of private and public psychology that it offers.

I was selected Finalist for the National Photographic Portrait Prize 2016, and also Semi-Finalist for the Moran Contemporary Photographic Prize 2015.

I recently spent a month as an artist-in-residence in The Balkans, and a short time after that, road-tripping through villages, tracing my family roots with my sister - an experience that went above and beyond what I had imagined it might! Feel free to take a peek at some of the wonderful people I connected with and some of the work I made https://www.instagram.com/reneestamatova/

Over the past 3 years, I have facilitated photographic workshops and projects with young people aged 12-22, through the City of Yarra Youth Services. I have developed a great affection for this work, it's challenges and rewards alike. If you would like to book me for a workshop with your school or community centre, please contact me on the details listed.

In addition to my arts practice, I also work as a freelance photographer shooting weddings, people and places. Here is my Instagram featuring some of that work https://www.instagram.com/reneestamatisphotography/

Feel free to contact me if you would like any of my services, or think we could make some magic together!
