Jacqueline A Matisse

Based in Ballaarat on Wadawurrung Country, Jacqueline maintains a full-time studio practice alongside teaching commitments. She holds a Master of Fine Arts from RMIT University, an MLitt from the Glasgow School of Art, and multiple postgraduate qualifications from the Victorian College of the Arts, specialising in visual art, photography, film, installation and trauma-informed research. Her practice is anchored in the landscape of regional Victoria, specifically the duality of its profound beauty and its inherent ecological fragility. Jacqueline’s current practice emerged after the 2024 bushfires, when scorched leaves rained from the sky. This event refocused her long-standing exploration of trauma, shifting her lens from the human experience to the suffering and loss of the natural world.
