Christine Segaert
Having failed sewing and art at high school, Christine has since built a diverse and evolving creative practice. She has worked as a textile artist, sewing teacher, glass jewellery artisan, and has also explored ceramics. In 2021, she discovered a passion for drawing and watercolour painting after attending classes at the Ballarat East Neighbourhood Centre. Prior to this, she considered herself incapable of drawing a straight line, making her journey into art both surprising and transformative.
As a historian, Christine has a particular interest in architectural subjects, often approaching them through a quirky, playful, and slightly left-of-centre lens. Her style balances detail with a sense of humour and curiosity, producing work that is both meaningful and engaging.
Alongside her own practice, Christine teaches watercolour classes in Ballarat. Her teaching combines demonstrations with guided exercises, encouraging students of all levels to explore technique, develop skills, and discover their own creative voice. Christine’s classes are welcoming, supportive, and designed to show that anyone, no matter their starting point, can learn to paint.
