There is barely a bakery in regional Australia, that hasn’t had one of Damian Callinan’s show posters blu-tacked to its window. In Hall Stories, the celebrated actor, comedian and creator of the hit Netflix film The Merger, combines his skills as a storyteller, stand-up and character actor, to pull back the curtain on his own tour stories and examine the quirks, traditions and characters of Australian halls and meeting places.

In the extended two-day version of the project, Damian spends time with the local community to delve into the history & characters of your hall to produce a tailored show that tells your story. In the three-day version, he will also interview key locals to later publish a podcast dedicated to your hall, as part of his Hall Stories series. Hall Stories has been performed everywhere from the stand alone, tin Woodhouse-Nareeb Memorial to the grand Williamstown Town Hall.

With 24 halls included on the 2025 itinerary, Hall Stories continues its journey around Australia in 2026. Hall Stories is Callinan doing what he does best, where he does it best. He knows how to talk over a bubbling urn; wind up when the CWA head into the supper room and stack the chairs in 5’s at the end of the night. You just let him know where to get the hall key, and he’ll do the rest.

  • Community Liaison – a nominated local will act as Damian’s guide to champion the surveys, the show & connect him to the community
