100 Steps in Situ

Twenty years ago, Australian artist
Virginia Ryan made her home in Trevi,
Italy. One of her first projects was to ask
local townspeople to help create a 'group
portrait’ through contributions of worn
shoes and brief narratives.

One hundred shoes were donated.

Together the shoes told a collective story
of time, memory and place, and were
exhibited in the city museum.

To mark its twentieth anniversary, Virginia
and Chameleon Arts warmly invite you to
re-create Cento Passi / One Hundred
Steps in the Balmoral community, linking
Australian content with the original project.

We’ll host an event later, but for now we are
asking for your contributions - from the
oldest to the youngest!

You can bring your pair of shoes
by 15 February to St Mary’s Anglican
Church Hall (or the Post Office), and leave a
few words with them.

The Hall door is open and the collection is
growing, so we are hoping you will surprise
us - even anonymously if that’s your thing!

All shoes will be photographed and returned.
Please spread the word - we are excited to
welcome your participation!

Would you like to join in this community project, by bringing your worn shoes --or those of a loved one-- to St Mary's Church Hall in the next two weeks to contribute to a unique TOWN PORTRAIT?
