The Curious Game - Born in a Taxi

Returning to Regional Arts Victoria Education & Families program by popular demand!

The show was fabulous!  The whole school from Prep to Grade 6 were engaged for the entire show. The Grade 5/6 students said that it was the best show they had ever seen.  They asked for it to return!! Regional Teacher and 5 stars from students

A place where the world of fairytales meets the world of board games, where one must play to discover what the rules are - but beware the Queen, for it is with her that all power resides. With the pomp and status games of the Royal Court - ridiculous rituals and eccentric dance, characters from an over-sized chessboard come to life to conduct an interactive game, where no one knows what the rules are, and not everyone’s a winner.

The Curious Game is a predominantly non-verbal performance that uses archetypal characters. A bossy Queen, a stupid knight and a pawn with a touch of cunning, conduct an absurd and humorous game for all ages, where the aim is to trust your creative instincts. Using symbols and gesture, the audience interpret the Queen’s signs by thinking laterally and acting physically. Each performance is a unique experience influenced by the participating students and their ability to be creative and trust their own instincts.

The only way to discover what the game is… is to play it?

Originally commissioned by The Arts Centre Melbourne around the theme of Alice in Wonderland, The Curious Game has delighted audiences from New Zealand to South Korea, utilising Born in a Taxi's signature performance style that incorporates physical theatre, ensemble dance, clowning and audience participation.
