Sound of Drawing - Polyglot Theatre

Sound Of Drawing is a new Play Space installation from Polyglot Theatre which places children's imagination at the heart of the art. Experienced artists from Polyglot, guide children through creative drawing exercises with a table that has been wired for sound. The physical action of drawing, combined with sound technology results in a live soundscape and shared artwork that reflects the imagination and energy of the school community. Together, children explore performance, visual art and technology in this fun, interactive creative space.

There is paper and a variety of drawing materials with a facilitator who takes the participants through a series of abstract drawing exercises, resulting in a large shared drawing - all curves and squiggles and lines connected and shaded.

While they draw, the sound of their pastel or their crayon on the table is picked up by sensitive microphones and amplified. The physical action of drawing is thus turned into soundscape.

As each drawing is completed it is hung on the wall of the foyer and gradually the colours and textures of our Australian landscape, from desert to city to beach to forest, fill the space.
