Small Worlds & Little Creatures by The Becken Project

Small Worlds & Little Creatures is a cross arts experience for pre-school and primary children spotlighting play and story making.
Clay, play, natural materials and an inspiring environment are the elements that make up small worlds.
Sandpits, gardens, natural playscapes and green corners of the playground are the ideal locations for small worlds. Working with clay the children use gumnuts, seedpods, twigs and other incredible pieces of nature to make their creatures. The creatures come to life with voices and characters from the sheer joy of play and natural materials.
Small worlds is a perfect opportunity to invite parents to join their children for the workshop. Adults and children create side by side connecting through story and working with their hands. Small worlds is equally engaging for adults and children.
Artists Rebecca and Ken are skilled at creating rich story environments with years of experience as theatre makers creating large scale visual theatre. They have worked with children and families creating puppetry shows, animation and a variety of other arts experiences in schools, communities and arts centres. Rebecca is a teacher of performing arts, a director and writrer for visual theatre. Ken is a designer and was co-founder of Handspan Theatre. They have spent many years questioning and exploring ways to unpack the creative process and collaborate with children. They have run workshops and presented shows made with children at ArtPlay, Arts Centre Melbourne, The Recital Centre and Fed Square.
Enjoy the complexity that play, clay and natural materials inspire!
