Marguk - Ilbijerri Theatre Company

The Marguk School Workshop Series uses drama to engage students in Indigenous culture, histories and storytelling. Workshops are available for all ages, from preschool to VCE and are delivered by leading Indigenous theatre artists from Ilbijerri, Australia’s longest running Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Theatre Company.

The workshops provide a rare opportunity for students to work with Indigenous facilitators in interactive drama activities that allow students to develop a deep understanding of Indigenous culture, social and political history and the contemporary lived experience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Aligning to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories and Cultures cross-curriculum priority across a range of subjects and learning outcomes, the Marguk School Workshop Series is suitable for all students and uses participatory drama techniques to create a hands—on learning environment.

This program is an exciting, vital development - not only at Ilbijerri Theatre Company but in the arts/education sector as a whole -Emily Atkins, Director, Drama Victoria

As teachers we have seen a flow-on impact into classroom learning, with spontaneous song and dance, and an increased level of creativity - Forest St Primary School, Ballarat
