Impro Melbourne On the Road by Impro Melbourne

Impro Melbourne's teachers are passionate, highly experienced professional actors who love inspiring creativity in students. Their instructors teach at various arts institutions, including the Victorian College of the Arts, St Martin's Theatre, The National Theatre, NICA and Malthouse Theatre. They bring their unique understanding of creative performance and theatrical skill to open up and demystify the VCE Drama tasks for teachers and students alike.
Impro Melbourne will be taking an amazing assortment of their incredible workshops and performances on the road at a reduced cost for regional venues!

Programs Available:

Improvaganza
Suitable for Years 5–12
Improvaganza is an extravaganza of improvisation that inspires creativity and demonstrates theatre-making through improvisation. Built around the fundamental skills of improvisation – acceptance, spontaneity and storytelling – Improvaganza demonstrates and explains how improvisation works.
Drama Impro Workshop
Suitable for Years 5–12
Students are introduced to the principles of spontaneous improvisation, including teamwork, cooperation, trust, respect for others' ideas, and dealing light-heartedly with failure.
Fairytale Cookbook Show
Suitable for Years 1–4
Open The Fairytale Cookbook, choose your ingredients, and let us whip you up an improvised fairytale as you've never seen before. Start off with a Hero, add a splash of Pirate King, or spice it up with a Witch... the choice is yours! The Fairytale Cookbook Show is an improvised storytelling format created especially with kids in mind. The audience helps cast the actors, choose the characters for the tales, and guide the Hero safely (or dangerously!) through the adventure they have created.
Fairytale Cookbook Workshop
Suitable for Years 1–6
The Fairytale Cookbook Workshop is a unique and engaging way to bring the magic of creating stories into the classroom. Let Impro Melbourne expertly provide the recipe for your students to tell great stories. Using well-established fairytale archetypes as ingredients and classical story design as the method, your participants will understand not only what makes a great story, but also how to construct one themselves with their personal unique twists.
VCE Drama Unlocked: Creating as an Ensemble (Unit 3 Drama Ensemble)
Suitable for Years 10–12
When faced with the prospect of creating performance, many students become ‘blocked’, trying to work out every detail before even getting onto the floor. Unlocking creativity, being playful, understanding how a simple exploration of one idea can lead to further discovery, how a sound or movement can have dramatic significance and how constructive criticism and peer observation can be helpful is the focus of this workshop for senior students.
VCE Drama Unlocked: Creating Characters (Unit 4 Drama Solo)
Suitable for Years 10–12
When faced with the prospect of creating a solo performance many students become ‘blocked’, trying to work out every detail before even getting onto the floor. Creating a range of different characters and the ability to ‘transform’ between one character and the next within a solo performance is often a challenge rather than a joy. This workshop focusses on the key area of character creation and character transformation that is required in the VCE Unit 4 Drama Solo Task.
VCE Drama Unlocked: Transitions and Space (Unit 4 Drama Solo)
Suitable for Years 10–12
The VCE Solo Task asks the student to not only create scenes that develop the ideas of their chosen structure but to be able to transition between them. These transitions and the use of space as a performer can play a vital role in lifting a solo performance from a simple series of scenes to a complete performance involving all the elements of non-naturalism such as space, focus, sound, rhythm, and heightened language.
