Storyboard

Created in response to the 2009 Victorian bushfires, STORYBOARD provides you with a creative space to share your photos, videos, artworks and stories with others who have been affected by this devastating event. An ongoing project, STORYBOARD is also a safe place to archive your precious images and record local histories.

Stories can be viewed on the map chronologically using our simple timeline as well as by topic in the tag cloud below. Alternatively, you can switch to gallery mode and view images and videos in time order or by topic.

About

What
Created in response to the 2009 Victorian bushfires, STORYBOARD is an interactive website that provides a creative space to share photos, videos, artworks and stories with others who have been affected by this devastating event. The website aims to capture the myriad creative responses to the bushfires not only from artists but all those affected by fire.

Who
STORYBOARD is a Regional Arts Victoria (RAV) project and the first stage in an on-going partnership with the Victorian Country Fire Authority (CFA) and the Department of Sustainability (DSE).

Why
Sharing stories has the power to engage people, assist communities to collectively deal with trauma and create stronger networks so that they are self-determining, aware and resilient.

Recognising that people develop knowledge and learning about fire and risk in different ways, the DSE and CFA are seeking to deliver their engagement programs in collaboration with multiple agencies using a mix of approaches. The arts is one such approach. By participating in STORYBOARD the fire services have the opportunity to learn more about the communities they serve and support parts of the community who perhaps would otherwise not engage with bushfire risk issues.

An ongoing project, we envisage STORYBOARD will become an important community archive for storing images and recording local oral histories. Utilising social networking and media technologies such as blogs, the website facilitates the creation of an on-line community where those dispersed by the fires can retain a sense of connectedness to their region as well as share important resources and information.

How
The collated stories and media are presented in the form of an interactive map of Victoria which can be viewed spatially as well as chronologically. You can view uploaded stories and images from specific time periods, giving you a sense of the scale of the fires and how they unfolded at a state-wide level. You can then zoom in on a particular area and view personal accounts and responses. Then switch to gallery mode and view uploaded images and videos in the order that they occurred or by topic.
