Small Stages

Following Nothing Happens by Magic, a series of one-day seminar workshops in regional Victoria last year, Regional Arts Victoria (RAV) is proud to be presenting follow-up workshops in event management.

The workshops will focus on giving community managed venues and ‘volunteer presenters’ the support needed to present professional shows in their community. Topics will include:

  • Program planning – what are the key elements to building successful events?
  • Volunteering – volunteers are the backbone to community events, how do we successfully recruit, manage and invigorate them?
  • Partnerships – how can healthy partnership make events sustainable for the future?
  • Funding - what are the options?

The workshops are aimed at individuals from small venues, local arts groups and government, festivals and local hall committees. The evaluation of the 2008 workshops showed an overwhelming number of participants wanted workshops in event management. We are glad to be able to provide some of these and hope to see you there!

2008

The 2008 Small Stages - Nothing Happens by Magic forums ran in 8 regional centres accross Victoria, including Violet Town, Beechworth, Maryborough, Charlton, Camperdown, Aireys Inlet, Mirboo North and Bruthen.

Each forum gave local organisations the support needed to present professional shows in their community, and reached individuals from local arts groups and government, festivals, local hall committees and more.

With a variety of presentations including running an arts council in a very small town, understanding state and national touring systems, marketing on a shoe string budget, and the touring world, 100% of attendees agreed that the forums were useful to their activities. Other comments from attendees at the forums included:

  • "Presenters with a wealth of experience who could give practical advice was a great bonus."
  • "I found the day very informative and I'm sure very useful to our needs"
  • "Thankyou, a wonderful day, great speakers, well conducted, a great networking day with all present."

Regional Arts Victoria will be announcing more workshops in 2009 - stay tuned for more details!
