The Symposium focussed on the theme of the role of the arts in dealing with adversity, responding to recovery and influencing change. More than a dozen projects will be presented by artists, arts groups and health organisations, performances, installations and discussions.
Friday 2 October from 6pm at the Geelong West Town Hall: Opening function included Jonathon Welch, Choir of Hope and Inspiration, and Geelong premiere of the theatre production, DUST.
Saturday 3 October 9am – 7pm at Geelong Arts Precinct: Presentations, discussions and exhibits. Topics included:
- Engaging Artists and Communities
- Perceptions of Disadvantage, Crisis and the Arts
- Artist or Social Worker?
- Sustaining ConnectionsBeyond the Arts Project
The Regional Arts Victoria RAVe Awards were also presented at the closing function
The 2009 RAV Symposium was assisted by the local steering committee comprising Duncan Esler (City of Greater Geelong), Malcolm Sanders (Courthouse Arts), Luisa LaFornara (Diversitat), Toni Van Hammond (Headspace), Kate Smith and Anne Somerville (G21 Geelong Region Alliance).
