Rainbow’s transformation celebrates in song on 6 October with the first ever Big Sky Festival in the grounds of the Old Primary School at the southern Mallee town.

Performers including Sal Kimber and the Rollin’ Wheel, will rock the school grounds which have been transformed to Oasis Rainbow through a small town transformations project.

The free event marks the end of two years which have seen a desert garden established, the school refurbished, visiting dancers and performers from all over the world, building of a projector bike and an array of events, stories, creations and music.

Big Sky Festival director Ben Gosling said while the official project was ending, the festival marked the beginning of a new chapter in the future of Rainbow.

“We are excited to have musicians including This Way North, Mick Coates and The Allnitelongers, Ally and the Cats, Brodie and The Oxy Clinic coming to Rainbow.

Mr Gosling also performs with his brother Andy, in the local band Lazy Farmer’s Sons.

“In keeping with our quest to provide learning and development opportunities we will offer a range of workshops in the afternoon before the performances begins.

“These will include an hour workshop each on loop pedals, song writing and live music.”

“We’ve been really enjoying having live bands in the old school building over the past few months and we are so excited about having an evening festival on October 6 to celebrate our community’s achievements.

“This has been such a great project for the whole community and we encourage everyone to come along and celebrate and those beyond Rainbow to see just what we have been up to.

The Big Sky Festival features markets from 4pm and the live music kicks off from 5pm.

There will be onsite catering, with people ask to BYO drinks and chair. Entry to the event is free.
