Regional Arts Victoria welcomes Justin Murphy to the role of Manager, Performing Arts Touring, as Kane Forbes leaves the organisation after nine years to embark on international adventures.

“I’m thrilled to be welcoming someone of Justin’s vision and expertise to an organisation that highly values both of these vital qualities,” said Regional Arts Victoria’s Director, Esther Anatolitis. “Justin stood out from a very competitive field of applicants, and brings solid experience to the role. At this pivotal time for the independent arts, I’m looking forward to seeing how our Performing Arts Touring program develops under Justin’s leadership.”

Justin is a passionate advocate for the role of facilitators within the arts: those committed people who strive to give artists the optimum space within which they can create their work, while providing audiences with an experience that enables them to best appreciate and enjoy the work of the artist, and inspiring them to return for new experiences time and time again.

“I am excited to be joining Esther and the team at Regional Arts Victoria,” said Justin. “I’m looking forward to renewing my old relationships and forging new ones with the wealth of talented artists and outstanding presenters, to bring audiences across the state and beyond the shows that move, inspire, motivate and delight them.”

Justin comes to Regional Arts Victoria with two decades of experience working in the arts. Having initially studied as a lighting and sound designer and stage manager, he has worked with a broad spectrum of venues, events, companies and festivals where he has developed a rich and extensive knowledge of performing arts production and touring. Justin has spent his recent years with companies such as Melbourne Recital Centre, Arts Centre Melbourne and Carriageworks in senior technical and production management roles. Most recently Justin was Building Services Manager at the Melbourne Theatre Company’s Southbank Theatre. Justin recently completed a Master of Arts and Entertainment Management with Deakin University. He still makes occasional forays into production design and voice acting, dabbles in photography, and may be heard quietly plucking away on guitar or tinkling piano keys.

Justin will attend Showcase Victoria on 17-18 May at Plenty Ranges Arts Centre where he’ll have the opportunity to reconnect with colleagues from across Australia. Justin formally begins in the role of Manager, Performing Arts Touring on Thursday 9 June 2016.
