Great Alpine Gallery Inc

2019 has already seen some great events taking place in Swifts Creek and surrounding areas.

The redevelopment of the Poet's Walk in Swifts Creek has been phenomenal with so many people involved from the community and only made possible through funding from a number of agencies. The poem "A River's Mark" written by John Butler a past gallery member has been placed on plaques on 6 stone cairns constructed by a local stone mason. The Gallery presented a number of free workshops for the community, presented by skilled local artists called the Living River Project.

These included building stone cairns with Ted Cole (stone mason), Basketry Techniques to make waterbugs and insects (identified in a Water Blitz bug ID day), Cumbungi Paper Making and Eco Printing and Silk Painting. The water bugs were then put together, lit up and a twilight launch celebrated the process. The walk is continuing to develop with a walking track being constructed, future art projects being planned as well as rejuvination of the river banks and plantings.

Meet Our Artists Open Studios continue from time to time with Ann Bingham demonstrating her colourful designs on glass, ceramics, paper and silk being the most recent.

Another very exciting event occurred- a major renovation! Over 20 years ago a group of art enthuisiasts undertook a labour of love to turn 2 old shops into the gallery. A grant from East Gippsland Shire Council enabled the gallery to replace calico walls with plaster, paint and upgrade lighting. Please drop in to see the revamp if you are in the area.

With the colder weather a Yarn and Yarn morning saw a small group chatting and knitting at the gallery.

Off the Wall exhibition is coming in September- using the old calico that covered the gallery walls  and turing it into works of art!

All of these events have helped to raise the spirit and profile of the Great Alpine Gallery
