Individual artists
Artists wanting to take out the Public Liability for Individual Artists must also take out individual membership with Regional Arts Victoria.
Membership is $55.00 per year.
Insurance to cover up to $10 million in payouts is $190.00 per year.
Insurance to cover up to $20 million in payouts is $285.00 per year.
This policy covers individual artists in the event that a member of the public is injured or their property is damaged through the member's negligence.
The following art activities acceptable under this insurance are as follows:
- Teaching provided the member does not have more than Twenty (20) students
- Visual Artists, including 2D, 3D and installation artists working as Creative Personnel on community arts projects, public art contractors, private exhibitors
- Performing Artists including dancers, actors, physical theatre, musicians, in controlled stage performance settings as well as street theatre
The policy covers these activities anywhere in Australia. Each policy covers the activities of the member only, not the activities of other artists or volunteers working with the member. They will need to have their own insurance policy.
Injury to the artist or damage to their property or artwork as a result of their own activities is not covered.

Groups of artists
For Profit
If you are a group of artists working together to make a profit, for example, in a band, running a market stall, you may not qualify as a group member under Regional Arts Victoria's guidelines. Such artists may be eligible for the Public Liability policy for individual artists.
Not-for-profit
Art groups approved for membership can apply for public liability insurance under the Regional Arts Victoria Umbrella Scheme. Please contact Regional Arts Victoria for further information. Cost of membership and insurance is assessed based on annual turnover.
