Regional Arts Fund
The Regional Arts Fund (RAF) is an Australian Government initiative supporting the arts in regional, remote and very remote/isolated Australia. The Australian Government has determined the objectives and general eligibility of the fund. Regional Arts Victoria (RAV) administers the RAF in Victoria (the funding does not come from RAV but from the Federal Government).
Funding for National Tours
Regional Arts Victoria (RAV) is not a funding body. It is a not-for-profit arts organisation which administers funding on behalf of Government agencies for the benefit of regional communities.
Arts Across Victoria submits applications to Playing Australia (Federal Government) for financial support of the National tours it intends to manage.
Financial Security
The Guarantee Against Loss (GAL) is a program to promote new performances in regional Victoria by offering financial security to venues to present professional performing arts productions.
GAL1 supports single presentations of professional inbound shows where the artist is new to the community and is performing original work.
For more information or to apply for GAL 1 click here.
GAL2 is managed directly by Arts Victoria and is open to performing arts venues and volunteer presenters for itinerised touring shows.
For more information or to apply for GAL 2, visit the Arts Victoria website.

National Cultural Policy Discussion Paper Submission
RAV recently made a submission to the National Cultural Policy Discussion Paper. Arguing for a greater policy focus on grassroots community activities and arts practice, our submission was created to reflect the needs and aims of our stakeholders.

Evaluation - Illuminated by Fire
Regional Arts Victoria's most recent statewide project, Illuminated by Fire, was a major statewide arts initiative that ran over 18 months and throughout 11 communities around Victoria. With outcomes in local communities and a final installation in Melbourne's Federation Square in July 2011, Illuminated by Fire was a major showcase of the skills and talents of our regional artists.
In order to learn from each project that we do, Regional Arts Victoria takes the process of evaluation very seriously and reports back on each project once completed. Below is our evaluation of Illuminated by Fire, which aims to assess the successes of the project against its original aims and intentions. We hope it may provide a model for other arts organisations to explore the value of community art projects, particularly projects that work with communities affected by disaster.

Small Cultural Facilities Review
Undertaken by Wellington RADO Deb Milligan in 2009/2010, the Small Cultural Facilities Review is a research and consultation project that explores ways in which the Wellington Shire Council can better support communities holding cultural activities in halls and other small venues
“Some people see art as something you really don’t need, as a luxury. But really you do: it is food for the soul, it is food for the mind and it is something that is essential for our wellbeing in these small towns.”
Briagolong Mechanics Institute Committee of Management member
The Small Cultural Facilities Review covers 56 small facilities spread across the Shire and its 41 towns. These facilities are predominantly public halls but also includes a gallery, a theatre and a number of small museums. Regional Arts Victoria sees time and time again how essential such community hubs are to regional Victorians - we hope the review is useful to other communities interested in assessing their cultural infrastructure.
