Regional Arts Victoria Appoints New Chair
At its Annual General Meeting held in Marysville yesterday, Sunday 17 May, Regional Arts Victoria paid a special tribute to outgoing Chair Mike Zafiropoulos. This tribute was delivered by RAV's Patron, Professor David de Kretser AC, Governor of Victoria who also presented Mike with Life Membership of Regional Arts Victoria. Mr Zafiropoulos has been a Board member of RAV for ten years and Chair for six years.
"Mike Zafiropoulos has given generously and tirelessly of his exceptional wisdom, governance and media skills to this organisation since he first joined the Board ten years ago," the Governor said. "RAV has achieved a great deal under his leadership."
Mike has had more than 40 years involvement in community affairs in a wide range of fields, covering the arts, sport, welfare, local government and philanthropy. He has served in senior positions in the Public Service and between 1995 and 2007 he was the General Manager of SBS in Melbourne.
Regional Arts Victoria's AGM was part of a broader program of activities on Sunday which included the launching of Marysville Temporary Village by the Premier and the launch of the Marysville studio of UGFM Radio Murrindindi by the Governor.
The Governor thanked Mr Zafiropoulos for his role in fast-tracking the local studio and in securing funding from the Lord Mayor's Charitable Foundation for the purchase of equipment.
Mr Zafiropoulos will be succeeded as Chair of Regional Arts Victoria by Mr Dennis Goldner who has been Treasurer of RAV for the past 4 years. Dennis is a senior partner with Deloitte, leading its government services group in Victoria, chairs the Deloitte Foundation and performs governance roles with State Library of Victoria and Oxfam Australia. He is Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
