2009 Victorian Veteran Community Story Writing & Art Competition
Entries are now invited for the 2009 Victorian Veteran Community Story Writing & Art Competition (SWAC).
This competition is open to eligible members of the ex-service community, including veterans, widows and children of the above 18 years & over who reside in Victoria.
The SWAC is an annual competition for members of Victoria's ex-service community. Now in its 47th year, it was originally a writing therapy exercise for returned soldiers at the Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital; and has since been expanded to include poetry, art, craft and photography.
In 2008, the competition attracted 704 entries from a total of 338 entrants across the state of Victoria.
Major sponsors of the SWAC include the RSL - (Victorian Branch), Austin Health and Magic 1278 radio. The Department of Veterans' Affairs provides administrative support with some additional funding, and in kind support from the Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital (Austin Health).
In 2009, the SWAC opening date is Wednesday 1st April and all entry form nominations must be received by closing date Friday 31st July to qualify.

Novice through to experienced levels welcome. Special 2009 Writing category on the various roles undertaken by women during wartime, which is entitled: "Women and War". Maximum 1,500 words.
