Courthouse Arts major production for 2010
Master & Servant
A Theatre Experience like Geelong has never seen before!!!!
The Old Courthouse in Geelong is about to undergo a major building renovation, but before that happens, watch the building be transformed into an exciting space to house Courthouse Arts' newest performance. Be prepared for a theatre experience the likes of which you have not encountered before.
All of the building will become the theatre, and you will be a part of the action as soon as you walk in the door. You will be invited into the space and asked to sit by the Servant of the house, while the Mistress and Master slide out of the shadows to greet their guests. The audience emerges into a dark space with a long table immaculately dressed for a formal evening meal. What then ensues is a game of wits, directly implicating the spectators, where each character will endeavour to gain the upper hand and secure the role as the ‘head' of the household.
‘Master & Servant' is Courthouse Arts major production for 2010. It is a 30 minute rotating performance that examines human relationships, the exercise of power and status, and how this can be altered. It is a metaphoric dinner experience where the audience members are invited to sit at the Master's table to view first hand the action of the narrative. The intimacy of the staging and the immersion of the audience inside the performance make them complicit; the outcome of which will vary depending on their reactions and actors choices.
Each night the performance will be conducted twice. There will be a strict maximum of 20 guests per rotation. In each rotation there will be a murder prompting each spectator to the event to question the implications of their own participation and to consider if they might be next. Who is guilty and who is innocent? The cycle then begins again. Each performance will be different, allowing spectators to stay and view another time.
Audience numbers strictly limited to 20 per performance!!!
