Stories of drought and struggle will be told through theatre and song at the first major production to be held in the newly renovated Creswick Town Hall.
The Hepburn Shire Council has attracted the musical supper, Dinner in a Dry Dam, to the Town Hall on Saturday 13 June.
The production specifically written to be enjoyed by rural communities in country town halls, premiered at the Malthouse Theatre, Melbourne in 2008. It has been a sell out hit in ‘dry dam' country towns including Castlemaine during the town's recent 2009 Festival, and at Horsham and Bendigo.
The stories combine a number of experiences of those living
on the land, celebrating decision, dignity, humour, strength and
struggle.
Under the highly regarded direction of Jude Anderson, Dinner in a Dry Dam brings together two of Australia's distinguished poets Berni Janssen and Penny Sell with renowned musician and composer Carl Pannuzzo, charismatic singer/actor Penny Larkins, prize winning playwright Emilie Collyer, to create a musical toast of "relentless beauty" that honours country.
Dinner in a Dry Dam celebrates country Australia's extraordinary capacity to confront and transcend struggle.
