Melbourne Cup Run At Marysville

Melb Cup

The November horse race that stops the nation, the Melbourne Cup, will be simulcast on the Fed Square and Marysville Big Screens next Tuesday 2 November 2009.

As part of the tourism strategy to help the town get back on its feet Melbournians are being encouraged to visit Marysville and join in Melbourne Cup Day fun.

Earlier this year an alliance between Fed Square, Centacare Catholic Family Services, Regional Arts Victoria, Helen Macpherson Smith Trust and the Marysville and Triangle Development Group has been responsible for the project which is providing the benefit of a large screen for community events, development and cultural experiences such as the screening of the Melbourne Cup.

Bridget Lloyd -Jones Local Project Manager for the Marysville Big Screen said "as is the case at Flemington any things goes when it comes to dress code, from gumboots to heels, from Pj's to after 5, hat or no hat ,everyone is welcome!"

Local wineries Buxton Ridge and Rochford Wines will showcase local wines and champagnes at the screening where many cup sweeps will replace bookies.

There will be prizes for best outfit (or rather costume) for all ages!  Other activities include an alternative horse race and horse shoe throwing competition. Or just relax with your picnic and bottle of local wine and enjoy the races on The Big Screen.

Cover will be set up so come along whatever the weather and rediscover Marysville!

The event will take place outside in view of the Big Screen (intended as an outdoor viewing experience) in a park alongside the CarMuseum.

Small tents will be set up around the perimeter of this open space and from two of these wine tasting and sales of beverages will take place. People can follow news of Marysville Big Screen via twitter http://twitter.com/MvilleBigScreen?
