Introduction

Welcome to Regional Arts Victoria’s June e-newsletter.

It’s mighty cold at present, but I’m happy to let you know that that RAV has the antidote! Rug up and join us in Melbourne as our statewide project Illuminated by Fire comes to Fed Square, from 29 June to 3 July. Illuminated by Fire will be installed across the site as part of their annual celebration, The Light in Winter. It’s going to be an incredible celebration of regional art that is both beautiful and diverse – we hope that you will be able to join us!

This is an exciting opportunity to showcase the work that we do in regional communities, and we’re looking forward to hosting artists, regional community members, and of course, our metropolitan supporters at the series of events that will be held – talks, performances and tours. There are many ways that you can engage with Illuminated by Fire while you’re at Fed Square: day and night tours will be guided by featured regional artists, and self-guided tours will be available each day between 10am-4pm.

An extensive symposium program also supports the artworks and will feature speakers such as Robyn Archer (The Light in Winter Artistic Director), Former Emergency Services Commissioner Bruce Esplin, Illuminated by Fire Artistic Director Donna Jackson, authors Arnold Zable and Danielle Clode, John Schauble (author and former journalist, The Age, Sydney Morning Herald), ecologist Kevin Tolhurst (The University of Melbourne), environmental consultant and former TV weatherman Rob Gell, amd anthropologist Simone Blair.

To find details on session and tour times and speaker programs, please see rav.net.au/storyboard.

In other news, Showcase Victoria was held on 26-27 May and was a resounding success. You can read further details below, but we’d like to thank everyone who attended the Clocktower in Moonee Ponds, and particularly our partners VAPAC (Victorian Association of Performing Arts Centres) who helped us to make it such a great event.

And don’t forget, we’d always love to hear from you. If you have events listings, feature artist ideas, stories, please let us know -  you can contact us on modwyer@rav.net.au.

Hope to see you at Fed Square!

Best wishes,

The RAV Team.
