Art for Life Bushfire Appeal

An invitation is being extended to both established and emerging artists to donate artworks to the Art for Life Charity Auction this month to raise funds to benefit those families affected by the recent bushfire.

So far over 40 regional and urban artists, many represented by commercial and public galleries, have joined together to build an impressive body of work for the ‘Art for Life' Charity Art Auction at the Melbourne Town Hall on Friday, 27th March.

I initiated the concert on 10 February, and David Stretch, Manager of the Theatre Royal, readily donated the venue for Feb 20 at 7pm. We called it the Road to Recovery Victorian Bushfires Benefit Night.

We had local performers, raffles and silent auction, and businesses around town gave generously (overwhelmingly) for the raffles and auction.

All proceeds went to the Red Cross Victorian Bushfire Appeal and a smaller amount to Wildlife Victoria.

We raised just over $11,000 in total.

The night started with a Scottish lament for the dead played on the bagpipes, and as well as entertainment included a talk by local CFA member Ian Stewart who went to Kinglake, and a prayer by local UC Minister Gordon Bannon.
