Capturing Flora: 300 years of Australian botanical art
Tuesday 25 September - Sunday 2 December 2012
A major celebration of 300 years of Australian botanical art will be staged at the Art Gallery of Ballarat from Tuesday 25 September to Sunday 2 December. The exhibition Capturing Flora: 300 years of Australian botanical art will take visitors through a historical journey of how Australia's amazing and diverse flora have been recorded, interpreted and popularized by botanical artists from William Dampier and the early explorers to the present day.
Capturing Flora aims to be the most comprehensive exhibition of Australia botanical art ever held in this country. It brings together over 300 images, the vast majority of which have been collected by the Art Gallery of Ballarat in recent years. It will be accompanied by a major publication, the first comprehensive monograph to cover this 'territory' for over 10 years.
