The Hole Big Yarn - PROJECT UPDATE
1st April 2009
The Hole Big Yarn Panmure community art project is well under way with progress on many different interpretations of the local theme, 'the big hole' (an iconic Panmure location and swimming hole). Participants are busy making, and in a some cases "getting obsessed" with knitting and crocheting works to be placed in the landscape at 'the big hole' in Panmure.

[readers refer to our first blog about this project at: http://www.rav.net.au/blog/view/6]
An unveiling of the project will take place on: Sunday 31st May, 2.00pm-4.00pm at the Panmure swimming hole - we will keep you posted.

A Word from our Artist in Residence
'For me this project is a perfect example of the ways in which a shared craft activity can 'knit' communities together. As we sit and stitch, stories are told and experiences shared, resolving both creative as well as much broader issues! All these conversations are in a sense contained within the work and the installation will truly represent The Hole Big Yarn.' - Amanda Fewell
Amanda is artist in residence with The Hole Big Yarn and is knitting an ambitious piece for the project as well. In her own words Amanda is a 'practissed and passionate knitter of 30 years'. In 2003 her honours degree resulted in a piece titled Growth Fetish, a series of large knitted totem poles. She has also initiated and participated in community projects such as a project in the small town of Koroit titled Slide Night - this project documented the activities of people in and around the town who worked with animals. The result was a slide show back-projected onto a shop window in the main street of the town. Amanda has also taught visual arts at Warrnambool TAFE and has had a number of exhibitions in regional Victoria and Melbourne. In 2008 she completed her Master of Visual Arts at Deakin University.

This project is supported by Moyne Shire Council and Regional Arts Victoria

Wow! this project is coming along so beautifully. I'm loving the woven fish, the unofficial parrot, the garlands, the gorgeous rocks! And of course ... the Keeper of The Yarn!
