FINISHING 2010 - Decoding the Qing Dynasty

Continuing a tradition of delivering quality visual art programs to regional Victorian schools, NGV Education Schools Programs has developed Decoding the Qing Dynasty.
Based on the successful Dressed to Rule: Imperial Robes of China exhibition, this is a workshop which offers students an education through arts experience with a focus on developing values that support intercultural understanding.
Enter a world of mystery and grandeur through a virtual tour of Dressed to Rule. The exhibition includes exquisite textiles and accessories from the Qing (pure and clear) Dynasty (1644-1911).
See robes worn by the Qing Emperor of China and members of his imperial court, badges and tiny embroidered slippers. Discover the symbolism underlying these complex designs and explore the social and cultural life of China during this great era.
Drawing on ancient Chinese mythology, the cosmos, philosophy and nature, students will be inspired to design and create a miniature robe reflecting the traditional symbols and decorative motifs.
This program provides an exciting opportunity to address multi-disciplinary learning for the VELS and identifies the broad knowledge, understandings, values and skills required to engage with other cultures.
All materials provided.
Please note: Due to tour scheduling, preference will go to schools that are able to book 2 workshops in one day. This event will be available to regional schools only.
