FINISHING 09 - Play it by Ear

Sunwrae presents a music workshop about composition, performance and improvisation. Tailored to your curriculum (with the option of an interactive component), and drawing on various techniques and compositional devices in minimalist music, Rae Howell (vibraphone) and Luke Richardson (double bass) build a composition from scratch, step-by-step. Coupled with cross rhythm and ostinato pattern development in music, improvised elements are introduced in the performance of the work, progressing the music into an elaborate and complex sound-scape, maintaining and highlighting the simplicity of the layers working together.
Appealing to musicians of all genres, Play It By Ear inspires students to think outside the square, additionally opening possibilities of music careers, stimulating creativity and encouraging individual style. Optional interactive element includes students writing/performing their own compositions and/or writing/developing a musical work together.
See the Sunwrae Ensemble perform at a venue near you - touring to Colac, Echuca, Sale, Warburton, and Warragul in April and May.
