Regional Arts Victoria awards first ever Arts Access Bursary funded by the Jack Brockhoff Foundation

The Weather and your health (detail)

South Coast Christian School and Mary Mackillop Catholic Regional College in Leongatha are the first ever recipients of the Regional Arts Victoria’s Arts Access Bursary, providing them with a private performance of The Weather and Your Health, a nationally touring play by Bethany Simons. In 2012 the bursary is generously funded by the Jack Brockhoff Foundation

The Jack Brockhoff Foundation was established in 1979 by the late Sir Jack Brockhoff. Its purpose is to provide philanthropic support to organisations whose activities are designed to have a positive and enduring impact on the health and well-being of communities.

The Weather and Your Health is a nationally touring theatrical performance written and performed by Bethany Simons with Daniel Mottau. The play has been nominated for two Green Room Awards, is included on the 2012 VCE Playlist and has toured nationally for the last two years.

Inspired by life in regional Australia, The Weather and Your Health is the enchanting story of a woman whose sunny outlook transcends the ups and downs of life. This charming play paints a touching portrait of country life through one woman’s stories of young love, war-times, local dances and home-made sausage rolls. The story is based on Bethany Simon’s grandmother and her stories of growing up in regional NSW.

Regional Arts Victoria’s Education and Families program delivers performances, workshops and teacher professional development opportunities to approximately 130 schools and 22,000 school students in regional Victoria annually.

The support demonstrated by the Jack Brockhoff Foundation and Regional Arts Victoria means that these two schools are provided with the opportunity to host a high-quality artistic production for their students.
