Applications for Eco-Cubby 2012 NOW OPEN!
After a successful 3-year pilot across the state, in 2012 the highly acclaimed Eco-Cubby is BACK!
The Eco-Cubby project is a workshop program for children which places architects and designers in schools and communities to promote the concept of sustainable design. Through the development of a fun, functional and environmentally friendly cubby house, children engage in challenging dialogue to learn about, build awareness of and take action for sustainable living. This project has been undertaken with students from kindergarten through to lower secondary.
Schools and communities work with a local architect/designer and Project Coordinator in the development of an Eco-Cubby project for their community. Each project is unique, but all focus on the process, identification and understanding of issues raised through the development of a sustainable living environment. It is structured closely around the VELS curriculum, but has synergies with IB and the Early Learning Framework also.
Documentation of the thought and design process, along with Eco-Cubby scale models, are exhibited each year, including at the Sustainable Living Festival (Melbourne) and other locations across Victoria. These exhibitions offer the chance for participants' outcomes to inform other children about sustainable living principles.
Applications for the 2012 project are now open via the following online form or the attached Word document and close on 25 November 2011.
